Songkran:

Thai’s New Year.
Celebrated in mid-April by `bathing' Buddha images, paying respects to monks and elders by sprinkling water over their hands.

Rice Planting Season:

Begins in early May.
The King participates in an ancient Brahman ritual in a large field in central Bangkok to kick off the official rice planing season.

Rocket Festival:

Held in May in the country's north-east,
Must see : volatile mixture of bamboo and gunpowder to convince the sky to send rain for the new rice season.

Vegetarian Festival:

Held in Phuket and Trang from late September to early October.
Devout Chinese Buddhists eat only vegetarian food runs for nine days .
Must see : merit-making processions and ceremonies at Chinese temples.

Elephant Roundup:

Held in November, Surin.
An elephantine festival popular, where pachyderms play soccer.
